The gadering
The day before the start (16.10.2023) we have registration open from 5pm at Holiday Inn Helsinki West.
We will pre-reserve a quota of rooms at the same hotel Holiday Inn Helsinki West Ruohalati (Sulhasenkuja 3, 00180 Helsinki); We will have discounted price for room booking

The Start MSG is from Helsinki near by the historical Olympic stadium and the public swimming pool.
To best enter the atmosphere of riding in Finland we recommend to take early morning swim and a Sauna with the locals before the start (Uimastadion Link).
Only 700 meters down the hill and you will be crossing the the new cycling bridge "the gate" to the gravel paradise, from this moment it will be you, the dust and the mud.
The Nuuksio national park landscape will "be your best friend" for the first 100km (Nuuksio link).
Be prepared to face some short singletrack path. Lightweight packing and the use of soft bags are very much recommended; choose the best gear you are comfortable with from your experience.
We advice tires above 30 mm;

This is unsupported bike adventure so you need to carry your on gear and equipment.
You can get in contact with us any moment if this is your first adventure and you need advice for the minimum gear required.
GPS device is mandatory to follow the route. You can decide where & when to stop to eat and where & when (and if) to stop to sleep. Absolute freedom of choice.
Keep in mind that there are shops and caffetteria but planning ahead and adapting to the local environment is essential.
You will find on the road occasionally wooden shelters and grilling spots. Visit Tulikartta.fi
Respect the nature and the hikers when you meet them on the route.

After Nuuksio the landscape will change; you will have to cross the civilisation for a while again and then you will enter the south rural area, characterised by farms, forests and occasionally lakes.

Spinning on gravel will be the main riding style for this section; consider up and downs but not big mountain climbs.
The long summer day light will be on your side and provide total freedom to your cycling schedule.

I will not tell more of the rest of the route and I will let you discover it.
One important aspect to consider: if you choose to ride the "EXPLORER ROUTE" you will be crossing the area called Saaristonrengastie (LINK); this is beautiful bike route from one island to an other. Consider and keep in mind the ferry schedule, deeper you go in the archipelago and slimmer it gets the ferry frequency; Ferry schedule (LINK).
Remember the Archipelago will be a very different landscape to explore.
After that... more single track...., more gravel and finally a visit to the former capital of Finland, Turku.
Turku is well connected, once you reach the finish line you can travel any where you want back home or to your new adventure by plane, train, bus or ferry.

Rest f the route "Veloce"

I will not spoil much of the rest of the route; if you choose to ride the "Veloce" tour be aware that after Paimio you will start to head North. There is one spot after approx. 420km the route will cross a very short 200mt farmer road while exiting from forest gravel session. That section had wild grass growing in the past weeks and we can't cut it. The surface underneath is smooth but be carful when riding there.
It was exceptionally hot during the first year edition and the last 200 km of route Veloce are crossing only few vilages, make sure to have sufficent water and sun lotion. The sun is up many hours each day.

Rest f the route "explorer"

If you follow the explore route after Paimio you'll be riding the archipelago; this is touristic popular route, no major surprises and mainly asphalt ride. remember to check the ferry schedule. Some of the ferries are stopping operating overnight. If you are riding in "hurry" and you like to take the tour in one shot, it is possible also wit the ferry schedule if you reach Paimio with in 20h theoretically you should be able to ride the Archipelago before the last ferry stops running for the night...

This year edition we have removed the very eavy single track and direct you to Naantali

Finish line

Both Explorer and Veloce will reach the same finish line.
This year like the last year the finish line is at my backyard due to practical challenges to get a pubblic spot
you will be welcomed with warm shower, Jacuzzi, free food and free drinks. We organized both grilling facility and real fire pizza oven

You will be able to camp in my back yard as long as you need to recover and together we can wait for the people to arrive at the finish line.

From Turku it is easy to take a bus or a train back to Helsinki or to any other location.
